netscape.security.AppletSecurityException: security.class from local disk trying to access url:The base problem was that I had copied the .class file to the directory from which I started Netscape. Thus, Netscape used the .class file from my home directory instead of accessing it over the netscape. The solution is to either remove the .class file, or start Netscape from a different directory. Other web pages suggested the problem might be due to using a non-secure port (8080) instead of a secure one (80), but that wasn't my problem.
HP color printer
I had no end of trouble with my new HP DeskJet 610CL printer (I got it for free, but I think I overpaid). It would work with DOS, but from Windows I would get mysterious out of paper errors. The problem turned out to be that a normal printer cable doesn't work; you must buy the expensive IEEE compliant cable, which looks identical, but fixes the problem.Linux with two disks
I had a bunch of problems installing Linux on the second disk of my PC. The loader kept ignoring it.jpg's wouldn't work with Windows
I installed some software and then my .jpg files wouldn't preview with Internet Explorer. The fix was to copy the registry data from My Computer\HKEY_CLASSES\ROOT\.jpeg to .jpg, in particular new subkey HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1} with default value {7376D660-C583-11d0-A3A5-00C04FD706EC}, which is apparently some voodoo into BROWSUI.DLL.
